What personal data is collected and why.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, data shown in the comments form is collected, as well as the visitors IP address and browser user agent string to help spam protection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Name and email address are the data that is taken when you submit a message through my contact form.  Contact form submissions are kept for a certain period for customer service purposes only, (if you opted in) but the information submitted will not be used for marketing purposes.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. Analytics (Google Analytics, Jetpack, Pinterest)

This site retains data for google analytics for traffic and user reports. It will expire after 26 months. It is retained for the sole purpose of not losing the history of the blog audience content. It is also used to help determine what blog post the audience liked the most in order to generate more of them. Whenever you revisit the site, the 26 month period will recalculate, using the most recent date.

By linking the Analytics property to the AdSense account(s), it will enable data to flow between the products. Data exported from the Analytics property into AdSense is subject to the AdSense terms of service, while AdSense data imported into Analytics is subject to the Analytics terms of service. Learn more

Enables data collection for Display and Search Remarketing. This includes data from Google’s signed-in users who have chosen to enable Google to associate their web and app browsing history with their Google account, and to use such information from their Google account to personalize ads. (However personalised ads are not inputted on this site especially for those within the EEA) Google Analytics temporarily joins these identifiers to your Google Analytics data in order to support your audiences. When you enable this setting, you must adhere to the Google Analytics Advertising Features Policy, including rules around sensitive categories and the necessary privacy disclosures to your end-users about the data you collect and share with Google.

 Third-party ads – use advertiser’s audience information to deliver more relevant ads on my sites. User-based ads – show ads based on users’ interests, demographics and Google Account information, and allow Google to collect visitation information from my site to create interest categories.

MAILING LIST

This mailing list is used as a registration process for blog post newsletter, personal information is collected. This information is used to 1. Share with you my new blog post, to develop a better understanding of the demographics of my subscribers; and lastly to check every so often that you’re happy and satisfied. Email lists are not rented or traded with other organisations and businesses.

MailChimp is the third-party provider, that is used to deliver my newsletter.  Statistics are gathered around email opening and clicks using industry-standard technologies to help me monitor and improve my e-newsletter. How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How we protect your data

Data collected for site reports are only stored for a period of 26 months as stated earlier in analytics. Personalised ads are not set on this site. (especially for those in the EEA).

What data breach procedures we have in place

Anonymize the data before storage and processing begin; This adds, telling Google Analytics to anonymize the information sent by the tracker objects by removing the last octet of the IP address prior to its storage.
